Directions: In this module, students will explore the internal combustion engine. The topic includes; tools, engine parts, how they are assemble and reassembled, and the working parts of the engines. Students will study the engine and be able to explain how the engine works. Students will need to know the difference between a 2-stroke motor and a 4-stroke motor.
This module consists of several lessons and the assessment of the student's progress. Students will complete all worksheets, take a photo of the assembling and disassembling of the engine, and place their work in the Technology Engineering portfolio.
  1. Locate the “Fact Sheet #1, Identify vocabulary”. Use the book, Small Gas Engines or the internet as a reference. Take notes and save to your portfolio.

  2. Complete the “Pre-test” and save to your portfolio.

  3. Locate and view the video, “The Basics. Review” and enhance your knowledge.

  4. Locate the “Fact sheets #2”, use the book, “Small Gas Engines,” or the internet, as your references to complete the worksheet, “Engine Construction and Principles of Operation”. Save to your portfolio.

  5. Locate and view the “Small Gas Engines” Power Point presentation on. Take notes for future answers to questions.

  6. Locate the “Small Gas Engine” software. View all areas. Take notes for future answers to questions.

  7. Complete the “Study Sheet #1” and save to your portfolio.

  8. Complete the worksheet, “Two-cycle and Four-cycle Engines”, save to your portfolio.

  9. Complete “Study Sheet #2” and save to your portfolio.

  10. Locate the small gas engine project. See your instructor. Begin the process of disassembling the motor and identifying parts.

  11. Continue with the disassembling of the engine and identifying parts.

  12. Upon completion of disassembling, contact the instructor for evaluation of this phase. Then locate the “assembling information sheet” and begin the assembling process.

  13. Remember the small gas engine is not an engine made for running, but an engine for learning. So there is no need to start the engine.

  14. Locate the Digital camera and take photos, save to your portfolio.

  15. Complete the “Module/Project critique sheet”. Save to your portfolio.

  16. Utilize the “Final oral worksheet” and review your operations to discuss the completion of the project with the instructor.
