Directions: Create a multi-paragraph essay on a poet of your choice.
  1. Name the assignment poet_study.

  2. Save the document in the writing folder.

  3. Use a proper heading. First and Last Name, Class and Period, Date, Assignment Title.

  4. Title the assignment Poet Study.

  5. You will be researching great poets. The question that comes to mind- what makes a great poet? Who decides? Your task is to “study” ten (10) poets considered to be the “best” of their class (i.e.; famous). For each poet you will read at least two poems. When you have completed this first task, the real work begins!

  6. You will choose one poet. Write a multi-paragraph essay which includes the following information about the poet:
    A. Brief Biography of Poet (DOB, citizenship, awards, interesting anecdotes, etc.).
    B. Reasoning for choice of poet (What about his/her writing “speaks” to you and why?)
    C. Reasoning for choice of sample poem (Why this poem? What is the story behind the poem? What is the message? Author’s purpose?).

  7. Include a photo of the poet on the title page.

  8. Include an annotated bibliography using Citation Machine.

  9. Create a link to poet's website from your reading page.

  10. Align your text to the left hand side of the page.

  11. Utilize block paragraphs, skip a line between paragraphs, and use single spacing.

  12. Use a single basic font that is size 12.

  13. Insert 1 space after periods and commas.

  14. Control standard writing conventions such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation and use them with accuracy and when appropriate. Minor errors must not distract the reader.

  15. Review all parts of this grade sheet before submitting the assignment for a grade.
