Directions: In this module, students will learn to develop knowledge of simple working machines, basic hand tools, and be exposed to the variety of plastic materials that are available. Students will also deign, plan, and build a simple plastic craft projects. Students will learn about the different methods used to process plastic materials. This module will give students the opportunity to have a small part of the huge field of plastic technology.
The module contains several lessons and the assessment of the student's progress. Students will complete all worksheets, take a photo of their project, and place their work in the Technology Engineering portfolio.
  1. Locate and read the materials “General Plastics” take notes to enhance your learning for future references.

  2. Complete the Pre-Tests and save to your portfolio.

  3. Complete the Study Sheet #1 – Vocabulary Terms, and save to your portfolio.

  4. Locate and read the Fact Sheets #1 and #2, take notes – to enhance your learning for future references.

  5. Locate and view the “Plastics power point presentation”, take notes and enhance your learning for future references.

  6. Complete the Safety Tests on Tools and Machines save and place them in your portfolio.

  7. Locate and complete the following safety tests: Metal Hand Tools; Sheet Metal Machines; Disc Sander; Drill Press, Spot Welder; Portable Hand Drill; Portable Jig Saw; Grinder; and Soldering Gun. Save to your portfolio.

  8. Upon completing all safety tests and instructors’ approval, begin the selection and design phase of a plastic project.

  9. Select a project from the instructor’s notebook, project selection.

  10. After the selection of a project, begin the design and layout process of the project, save to your portfolio.

  11. Now begin transferring the design to a pattern, the pattern is then transferred to the plastic materials.

  12. Complete the process by including measurement and a written procedure for the construction phase, save to your portfolio.

  13. Begin the construction phase, find materials from the instructor and review the safety procedures.

  14. Continue the work on the Plastic project, review safety procedures.

  15. Complete the construction phase and check with instructor for the “finishing phase instructions”.

  16. After completing the finishing phase, check with instructor for further instructions or improvements.

  17. Locate the Digital camera and take a photo of your vehicle and its performance.

  18. Complete the module / project critique sheet and save to your portfolio.

  19. Utilize the final oral worksheet to discuss the completion of the project with the instructor.
