Directions: In this module, the Mousetrap vehicle, you will learn how products and systems are developed using the design process, and how to develop solutions to problem solving. You have the opportunity to use what you learn by designing and constructing a mousetrap vehicle working from a given design. You will learn about the basic transportation system and how the automobile is similar. In this lesson you will design and construct a vehicle that is powered solely by the energy from a simple mousetrap that travels the greatest linear distance and in the least amount of time.
The module contains several lessons and the assessment of the student's progress. Students are asked to complete all worksheets, take a photo of their project, and place their work in the Technology Engineering portfolio.
  1. Locate and read “Activity 1 – Automobile Fact Sheet,” in the Mousetrap vehicle notebook section 1. take notes.

  2. Locate and view the video on “Mousetrap Vehicle”. Take notes; use the video to answer any key questions.

  3. Locate the Sci Tech program in the Reed folder, click on “Kinetic energy”, locate the "Mousetrap Vehicle" find “Mousetrap Vehicle” read and take notes.

  4. Locate and complete all the lessons and worksheets within the mousetrap module..

  5. Begin the design process of your vehicle. Save to your portfolio.

  6. Evaluate your design phase and make changes if needed and save it to your portfolio.

  7. When transferring a design, remember to make a pattern. It will help in the process.

  8. Locate the Mouse Trap vehicle kit from the instructor.

  9. Locate the hand tools, Hot Glue Gun and Utility Knife for the construction phase.

  10. After completing some of the construction phases, you may want to test your vehicle. This can be accomplished by the experimenting with your vehicle.

  11. Work to improve the performance of the vehicle and make final adjustments for the final test day.

  12. Locate and read the “Testing Information Fact Sheet,” use the information.

  13. Locate the Digital camera and take a photo of your vehicle and its performance.

  14. Utilize the completion of all lessons to discuss the completion of the module with the instructor.
