Directions: Utilize a team to design and build a bridge.
  1. Select a bridge building team.

  2. Locate the "Bridge Building Booklet", read pg. 5 - 7 and take notes for future reference.

  3. Locate "History of Bridges," from the handout, read and take note for future reference.

  4. Locate the software program "Bridges", view and take notes to enhance your learning.

  5. View the various types of bridges, from the handout; take notes for future reference.

  6. Locate and view the Bridge power point presentation, read and take notes.

  7. View the video, " Bridges."

  8. Locate "Bridge Basic Objectives," Read and take notes for future reference.

  9. Complete the Safety Tests; 1" Belt Sander, Wood Hand Tools, and Basic Gluing procedures Save to your portfolio.

  10. View the "Truss Bridge Designs," select a design that may interest you and your partner.

  11. Locate the "Bridge Technical report sheet," using the required specifications, complete the sheet and Save to your portfolio.

  12. Locate the Bridge Building Booklet and complete the worksheet #1, save to your portfolio.

  13. Locate the "Bridge basic objectives test sheet -complete save to your portfolio.

  14. Begin the Thumbnail sketch phase. Save to your portfolio.

  15. Locate the thumbnail sketches and select one for the final draft, check with instructor for final instructions. Make a full scale drawing of the top view and the front view of your bridge. Note that the specifications sheet is what you will use.

  16. Begin the final draft and continue the design process. Check with instructor for advise, save to your portfolio.

  17. Upon the completion of the final draft process, begin the construction phase. See instructor for materials and save final draft to your portfolio.

  18. Continue the Bridge Building project, view the construction instruction sheet, which will help you with the gluing process and see instructor for advice.

  19. After completing the construction phase, begin with the finishing phase.

  20. Complete the finishing phase - save a digital picture to your portfolio and prepare for the final test day.

  21. Locate the "Bridge Evaluation Sheet" for final evaluation of your bridge with the instructor.

  22. Locate the stress bridge tester, stress test your bridge with instructor and record the critical load, save to your portfolio.

  23. Re-locate the bridge evaluation sheet, enter your calculations and record your final project score. Save to your portfolio.

  24. Complete the Module / Project critique sheet and the special assignment. Save to your portfolio.
